U19 CWC 2012 Coach Watch Author: Maaz; Views: 248; Date: 9-08-2012, 07:51;

Sanjay Manjrekar (who along with Wasim Akram is part of the commentary team for the #u19cwc) recently talked about the important part coaches can play at the under-19 level to the extreme that he has memories of the coach setting the field for the Indian side at this level in the past. There are many recognisable names involved in the coaching front at the youth world cup. All will have an input, looking to share their experience and raise their coaching profile to bigger assignments in the future perhaps.

Stuart Law is in charge of the Australians. – Bangladesh’s Asia Cup 2012 coach
Chris Harris is in charge of the Zimbabweans. – Played for New Zealand in the 1992 World Cup
Geoff Lawson is helping out the Afghanistan side. – Former Pakistan coach
Ray Jennings is with the Proteas. – The South African, had stints with RCB in the IPL
Courtney Walsh is managing the West Indies. – 5th leading test match wicket taker of all time

For Pakistan, Sabih Azhar was the coach of the Rawalpindi domestic side which won the inaugural Faysal Bank super 8 competition at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad in July 2011 and were runners up in the domestic t20 competition in October of the same year. In the same year as well he coached the under 25 side for the SAARC games in the Maldives where they won the competition. Here currently in Australia he will hoping to go one better than what Ijaz Ahmed managed in 2010 in New Zealand with the under-19 side at the World Cup event.

There is plenty of competition between many experienced minds as they look to guide and motivate the young troops they are in charge of. At this level the significance of a coach at the head cannot be stressed enough.
