This day last year - Kia Oval - ICC Champions Trophy - Misbah's 96 not out vs West Indies.
Came close to being the greatest innings by a Pakistan player in ODIs ever had the bowlers knocked over the WI lower order to seal victory, in my opinion. It was worth 140 in the game context and wasn't a normal game either. It was a vital world tournament fixture.
15/3, age 39, captaincy debut in ICC tournament, first ODI in England, captaincy debut in England, yet was able to stand up, withstand pressure and weather the storm. Career best in a game where he top scored with over 55% of the team runs. 96 not out in a game where the average for a wicket falling was less than 20.
Anyone can make runs in big scoring games. Only the best can make runs in small scoring ones.
Despite ending up on the losing side, his performance should have merited a man-of-the-match award.
7th June 2012, a year earlier before the magnificence at the Oval; on this day he beat Sri Lanka as captain in a one day international in Sri Lanka.
