Pakistan will need to be in the top 4 by the end of their Australian tour in 2016/17 to qualify for the 2017 event in England. Initially it was going to happen this year, but broadcasters did not like the idea and were contracted with a Champions Trophy and so the ICC decided they will play a Champions Trophy instead for one final time.
